Rapi Ananda Pamungkas, also called ‘Rap’, is a 2-year-old Indonesian boy who smoked up to 40 cigarettes per day until recently when he has exchanged the cigarettes for a one-year supply of milk and biscuits.

According to his parents, Rap got upset and aggressive when they didn’t give him cigarettes. He started smoking when he was only months old by picking up leftover cigarette butts from the ground outside his parents’ food stall.

“Rapi Ananda Pamungkas’ dirty habit started when he was just two months old after picking up used butts outside his mum’s market stall in hill station resort of Sukabumi,” The Sun wrote.

“However, within days the two-and-a-half-year-old was hooked and he began constantly pestering passing shoppers to give him cigarettes.

“The adults initially found the youngster’s demands endearing and plied him with fags while laughing as he lit up.

“But Rapi – nicknamed Rap – soon started becoming aggressive and throwing tantrums when he couldn’t get his beloved ”meroko”, the local term for cigarettes.”

35-year-old Maryati, the mother of Rap, said she had to buy him two packs per day in order to meet his smoking desires.

“I cannot say no to him when he asks for a cigarette. I don’t even smoke that often. I only smoke at work. When my son smokes he likes to have a cup of mochaccino,” his father added.

After more than a year of dangerous smoking habits, parents finally reacted. They talked to a doctor and shared their son’s story online.

In an attempt to stop him from smoking, the local council provided the family with a one-year supply of milk and cookies. The child was also given toys, sweets, and other things that keep his mind off cigarettes.

Apparently, Rap’s mom said she was ‘educated’ about the dangers of smoking but didn’t know how to handle the situation. When asked about their life after the change, the 35-year-old said:

“Yes, he’s stopped smoking. I am happy. My child has not smoked for the past two days.

“Before I was afraid not to let him smoke. This morning I went to the market, and Rapi didn’t go berserk to ask for cigarettes and coffee.

“Now for two days he has not asked. He looks at the cigarette butts on the floor but does not pick them up. Usually he would take them and suck them.”
