Cellulite is the formation of lumps or small dimples in the skin, and can affect both men and women, but is more common in females because of fat, muscle, and connective tissue distribution.
The appearance of cellulite often frustrates individuals, who consequently try to seek out a quick and easy solution. It is common for people to look to celebrities who describe their so-called secrets to removing cellulite.
However, highlighted below are four essential oils that have been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite and how to use them.
Common Causes of Cellulite
The exact reason for the development of cellulite has not yet been identified, however, it appears to arise as a result of the interaction between connective tissue in the dermatological layer of the skin and the fat deposits beneath it. When the fat cells protrude into the dermatological layer rather than lying vertically in women, this creates the appearance of cellulite. Unlike women, fat cells have a criss-cross structure in males, which may serve as an explanation for why men have reduced the risk of developing cellulite.
Even so, some factors that may contribute to the appearance of cellulite include genetics, lifestyle, hormones, and diet.
Essential Oils to Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite
Essential oils are one of the most well-established natural remedies for skin issues, including the development of cellulite. They are also often used to reduce sleep disorders, stress and other factors that may play a part in the development of cellulite. These oils are also known to help balance hormones as well as reduce water retention. Additionally, high-quality essential oils rid the body of toxins that can abnormally hold onto fat and improve circulation2.
One of the ways to fight cellulite is by stopping lymphatic blockage. Rosemary essential oil helps with this condition in part by improving the body’s blood circulation. After diluting with a carrier oil, place a few drops of this mixture directly on the area with cellulite and massage. This has been shown to not only reduce the appearance of cellulite but to improve the overall appearance of the skin.
As with any remedy, it is important to be patient in expecting results. Given time and consistent use, however, the majority of users will find that this at-home remedy works to effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite.
This is a powerful essential oil that will flush the body of toxins, reduce fluid retention, and improve circulation. The combination of these elements can also contribute to reducing the appearance of cellulite. After being diluted with a carrier oil like almond, jojoba, or coconut oil, cypress essential oil can be massaged onto the affected area twice daily. Alternatively, a few drops of this oil can also be added to a relaxing bath.
Lemongrass essential oil has the powerful ability to dissolve fat deposits that contribute to cellulite. This oil can be combined with cypress essential oil, as well as a carrier oil, and then massaged onto the affected area for a powerful cellulite treatment.
Grapefruit essential oil is well-known for its many health benefits. The oil is often used as a weight-loss method, flushes the body of toxins, and can improve the appearance of cellulite. As with many of the other essential oils mentioned, dilute grapefruit essential oil with a carrier oil and apply directly to the affected areas.
The use of the essential oils mentioned above, paired with consistent exercise and a high-fiber diet will play a significant role in reducing cellulite. The important thing is to remember that the cellulite didn’t form overnight, and it won’t disappear that quickly either. Remember, consistency is key and will ultimately get you the results that you want.
